2020-2021 Instrumental Program

Welcome to the new school year! Last year we had over 200 students involved in our outstanding instrumental music program here at Hidden Hills. We are proud to continue offering instrumental instruction to our fourth and fifth grade students at both beginning and advanced levels. Students may choose to play ensemble instruments that will prepare them to participate in the band or orchestra. The instruments offered are: flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola and cello.

Hidden Hills School offers instrumental music for fourth and fifth graders by supplementing district funding with parent donations. The district supports half of the total amount needed for our instrumental music teacher. Without parental support of the music program, we would only be able to offer one lesson of instruction per week, which we believe is insufficient. Therefore, we are asking for a donation of $200 per child for the school year from every fourth and fifth grader that is interested in learning to play a musical instrument.

Students who sign up for instrumental music need to arrange for the loan, rental, or purchase of their own instrument. They will also need to purchase the book, Essential Elements for their chosen instrument. Book 1 for beginners and Book 2 for advanced. Students that sign up for instrumental music are expected to make a one year commitment along with at least 15 minutes daily practice.

Instrumental classes meet twice a week. For some students, one of these sessions may be before or after school hours. However, at least one of these sessions (and most times both sessions) will be during class time. Students are responsible for any regular class work that is missed while participating in music.

Meet Ben Loomer - InstrumentAL Director

I am thrilled to be joining the Hidden Hills Elementary Family this year! I earned my Bachelor Degree in Music Education and my Credential from University of the Pacific in Stockton.

I have been teaching Instrumental and Vocal Music at Stone Valley Middle School since 2008. Since Stone Valley is the smallest middle school in the district, some years there aren’t enough music classes to be full time at one school. I’d had the privilege to work simultaneously at other schools in the district including San Ramon High School and Gale Ranch Middle School teaching Band and String classes!

I am currently a performing member with the Contra Costa Wind Symphony, a group where I also serve as the associate conductor.

I live with my wife, Meridee and our three cats in Livermore. We welcomed our first child, a boy, this November! This will definitely be an exciting year!
